The client’s brief centred around elevating the eco-performance of the home while preserving and celebrating its historic features. Our goal was to introduce thoughtful, modern enhancements that would improve the comfort, usability and sustainability of the property.
A key request was the conversion of the garage into a snug – a cosy, inviting space that now offers warmth and purpose where there was once underused space. Internally, the layout has been carefully reconfigured, with particular attention to the bathroom and other areas to improve flow and usability. These alterations were made in a way that honours the building’s original charm while enhancing practicality.
Improving the thermal performance and aesthetics of a historic home is never without its challenges. One of the major tasks was the introduction of externally rendered insulation across all elevations. This approach strengthened the building’s resistance to heat loss while allowing space for a refined, modern finish. At the same time, original window details were preserved in full, keeping the distinctive charm intact.
To further enhance energy efficiency, a new Zinc warm roof system was installed. This provided not just an insulation upgrade but also introduced a touch of modern design, carefully balanced with the rest of the structure.
The result is a thoughtfully reimagined home that feels both timeless and modern. The external façade now speaks of sophistication while blending effortlessly into its natural surroundings, framed by mature greenery and full of character.
